Well, folks, it’s #GivingTuesday once again! With so many non-profit organizations out there, it can be hard to decide which are the most important for your donations. Music programs across the nation are still facing budget cuts and need your help. So, if you’re a musician or music lover, please consider giving back to your music community today. Here’s a few suggestions to get you started: NAfME’s Give a Note Foundation NAfME is one of the largest supporters of music education in our country. Their “Give a Note Foundation” works on educating educators and decision makers about the importance of music education. Their goal is to continue maintaining high-quality music programs already in existence, enhance music programs in communities in need and educate all about the importance of music in education. Visit their website for more information: http://giveanote.nafme.org/ Also, check out their advocacy programs to learn more about becoming an advocate for music education! VH1 Save the Music Foundation At VH1, they understand the benefits of music education and its positive impact on a child’s life in both academic and personal growth. They also know that music educators face a difficult challenge of keeping their music programs alive with the frequent budget cuts from administration. According to their mission statement, VH1’s Save the Music Foundation is “dedicated to restoring music programs in America’s public schools, and raising awareness about the importance of music as part of each child’s complete education” and their goal is to give access to a musical instrument to every child in the United States. Your donated money goes towards purchasing instruments for schools that do not have an instrumental music program in place. Schools that qualify must apply and be approved. To learn more and give back today, visit their website at http://www.vh1savethemusic.org/ Fender Music Foundation According to its mission statement, the Fender Music Foundation “supports music education programs nationally by providing those in need with instruments and by advocating the benefits of music education.” The organization was founded in 2005 and since its initiation has reached 187,000 individuals and have awarded grants to over 50 community music programs and 59 school music programs. To learn more, visit their website at http://www.fendermusicfoundation.org/ Hungry For Music This organization focuses on distributing musical instruments to under-served children and also provide them with an instructor who has a “hunger to play”. Through this non-profit company, over 7,000 instruments have been donated in over 42 states and 12 countries! Visit their website to learn more: http://www.hungryformusic.org/index.html Donate to a Local Ensemble And finally, one of the best ways to give back is to contact a local ensemble and donate. Whether it is a high school choir/band/orchestra, or a prominent ensemble in your community, almost all music programs are in need of additional funding. Contact the ensemble’s manager or director today and see how you can help their program! Encore Tours does not endorse any particular non-profit organization, however we believe in the importance of music education and we support all efforts to keep music in our schools. Thank you to everyone who participates in this year’s #GivingTuesday in support of music!
