Kecskemét Located in central Hungary, Kecskemet is the birthplace to renowned composer Zoltán Kodály and home to the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. Located halfway between the Danube and Tisza rivers, Kecskemet is also known as the “Orchard of Hungary” due to their many exquisite vineyards and gardens. In fact, the apricots grown around Kecskemét are often believed to be the most delicious in all of Europe. Lake Balaton The largest lake in central Europe, Lake Balaton is located about 50 miles southwest of Budapest in central Hungary. Running along the foothills of Bakony Mountains, Lake Balaton provides visitors with ample opportunities for leisure activities and spectacular scenery. Its mystical atmosphere paired with its Neo-Gothic features differentiates it from any other church in Budapest. The beautiful Ceremony Hall in the Lyceum serves as one of the departments main performance venues. It’s ideal for smaller choirs and chamber orchestras and can accommodate up to 200 audience members. The university courtyard provides a wonderful outdoor venue for summer concerts perfect for large choirs and orchestras. Band Choir Orchestra Franz Liszt Academy of Music Budapest The Franz Liszt Music Academy is not only a music hall, but also a renowned architectural jewel in the beautiful city of Budapest. It was founded on November 14, 1875 and is home to the Liszt Collection, which features several valuable books and manuscripts donated by Franz Liszt upon his death. Band Choir Orchestra Gödöllő Royal Palace Gödöllő The Gödöllő Royal Palace, the largest Baroque palace in Hungary, was built in the 18th century and has been recently restored to its original glory. It is the home to two wonderful performance venues: the Riding Hall, which is ideal for large orchestral performances, and the Baroque Theater, which can accommodate smaller instrumental groups and choirs. Both venues are architecturally stunning and draw enthusiastic local audiences. Band Choir Orchestra Grassalkovich Palace Hatvan The ballroom of this Baroque castle provides an intimate concert setting for small choirs and chamber groups. The building was designed in the mid-1700s for Count Anton Grassalkovich, head of one of the wealthiest families of the Habsburg Empire. The last member of the family died in 1841 and the palace has since had several owners. Today it is a cultural and educational center. Band Choir Orchestra Liszt Ferenc Conference and Cultural Center Sopron This beautifully renovated venue contains a theatre, concert hall, casino and restaurant and hosts some of the most important musical and cultural events in Sopron. Band Choir Orchestra MOM Cultural Center Budapest The MOM Cultural Center was built in 1951 in Bauhaus style. For a long period this facility was the only place on the Buda side of the city where proper theater performances were held. In the early 2000’s the local city district government developed and modernized the building and now this new building which seats up to 660 audience members caters to many types of performances, including high quality musical and theatrical performances, ballet, folklore, and modern dance. Choir Minorite Church Eger Off all the many Baroque buildings in Eger, the Minorite Church is arguably the most beautiful. Stunning both inside and out, perhaps the most striking feature of the church is the wooden pews. They were individually carved by one man, Jozsef Stockerle, between 1769-70 and are all different with a unique story to tell. The church can seat up to 320 people and welcomes visiting choirs with sacred repertoire. Band Choir Orchestra Nagytemplom Kecskemét Also known as Kecskemet Cathedral the Nagytemplom, or Great Church, serves as the Co-Cathedral of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa-Kecskemet. Situated in the main town square, it is the largest cathedral in the Great Hungarian Plain. Both instrumental and choral ensembles are welcome to perform here and both sacred and classical secular repertoire are allowed. Choir St. Anne’s Church Budapest St. Anne’s Church is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque buildings in Hungary. After the Ottoman era, the Servite order were given permission to build a church together with a Monastery in 1686. Built in 1732, this Roman Catholic Church is located in the upper part of Servite square, in the very heart of Budapest. Unfortunately, the monastery and the church sustained severe damage during WWII, however it was rebuilt and is back to its original grandeur today. Choir St. Michael Church Budapest Built in 1765, with the original frescoes still intact, St. Michael’s church has one of the oldest organs in Budapest, dating back to 1893. It is a beautiful venue for concerts with its wonderful acoustics and regular concert series in the summer. Choir St. Stephen’s Basilica Budapest St. Stephen’s Basilica, the largest church in Budapest, is dedicated to Hungary’s first king, St. Stephen. It plays a very active role in the Budapest music scene, since its consecration in 1905. The head organists of the church have always been very high level musicians. In the last century the basilica has hosted choral music, classical music, as well as contemporary music performances. Created in a truly Hungarian style, it opened its doors in 1865 as a house for concerts, exhibitions, balls, dance evenings and other events.
