Figueira da Foz

Figueira da Foz is a classic Atlantic resort town at the mouth of the Mondego River, about 40 kilometers west of Coimbra in central Portugal. Celebrated in the 1920s and 1930s as the “Queen of the Beaches,” it is known for its vast sandy shoreline, one of the widest urban beaches in Europe. Groups can stroll the seafront promenade to the old fishing village of Buarcos, take in views from the forested Serra da Boa Viagem, and enjoy an easy base for day trips to Coimbra, Aveiro, and Fátima.
