Itinerary

9 Days / 2 Rothenburg / 2 Nuremberg / 3 Munich

Departure from the United States.

Arrive in Frankfurt, meet your Encore Tour Manager and drive to Rothenburg. Once settled in, you can begin to explore and familiarize yourself with this medieval gem of a city. Enjoy a welcome dinner and orientation tonight.

Located along the Romantic Road, a guided sightseeing tour of Rothenburg is easily done on foot today. Discover the Town Hall Square and St. Jakob’s Church. During your free time, visit the medieval Kriminalmuseum of torture, or shop for handcrafted souvenirs in one of Europe’s best Christmas shops- the Wohlfahrt’s. In the afternoon, prepare for your first concert followed by a group dinner!

Journey to Nuremberg, the home of the famous artist Albrecht Durer and Peter Henlein, the inventor of the pocket watch. Known as the Capital of the Middle Ages, Nuremberg is perhaps most famous for its former Nazi Party Rally Grounds and the post-war trials that took place there. Check in and enjoy a group dinner.

In the morning, enjoy a walking tour to view the Zeppelintribune at the Nazi Party Rally Grounds, followed by a look at the Palace of Justice, where the infamous Nuremburg war trials were held from 1945 to 1949. Then visit the Nuremburg Documentation Center, a museum that provides socio-political context for the Nazi reign of terror, with commentary given via audioguide. In the afternoon, transfer to your next performance! Tonight, enjoy the city’s famous Rostbratwurst, small grilled bratwurst sausages with sauerkraut!

Depart this morning for Munich, stopping en route to visit the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial. This former prison camp actually was not one of the “death camps” but is still a vivid reminder of Nazi atrocities during World War II. Participate in a discussion about the rise of the Nazi Party and learn why every Munich school child must also visit this poignant site. In Munich, refuel with a pretzel tasting followed by an evening visit to the Olympic Park.

The word Gemutlichkleit means coziness, hospitality, warmth, and welcome. Dive right into this Bavarian way of thinking on a guided city sightseeing tour of Munich. Discover the Rococo style Nymphenburg Palace, the famous Glockenspiel in Marienplatz, and stroll through the Viktualienmarkt. In the afternoon, transfer to your final performance at a local venue!

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day excursion with your Tour Manager through the Bavarian Alps. First visit Neuschwanstein Castle, one of King Ludwig’s lavish palaces built upon an imposing facade. Continue through the mountains to Oberammergau, where once every 10 years, the world comes to watch the famous Passion Play. Enjoy the beauty of the landscape and return to Munich for dinner this evening.
