The so-called City of the Gods, Teotihuacan preserves the remains of one of the most important civilizations in Mesoamerica. Walk along Dead Avenue, the ancient main street that runs over 1.5 miles and see the Quetzalcoatl Temple and other notable buildings. You will have the unique opportunity to have lunch prepared for you in the home of a local resident! This afternoon, transfer to Las Lomas de Chapultepec where you perform a shared concert! Today, enjoy a full day excursion starting with a visit to Peña de Bernal, designated one of Mexico’s Pueblos Magicos, or magical towns, because of its historic charm, legends and history, and peaceful atmosphere. It’s also home of the third largest monolith in the world which is nearly 9 million years old. Here, you will take a city tour and visit handicraft markets, the Mascara Museum and Ánimas Chapel. Next, visit Tequisquiapan, a charming colonial town populated with mostly indigeonous people and traditional rustic houses with wrought iron fixtures. Return to Queretaro for dinner in a local restaurant. (B,D)

This morning, transfer to San Miguel de Allende. With its narrow cobblestone streets, leafy courtyards and fine architectural details, San Miguel de Allende is one of the prettiest towns in Mexico. Called the “Forge of Independence” for the important role it played in gaining Mexico’s independence from Spain, San Miguel de Allende is a fascinating place to discover on your afternoon sightseeing tour. Seeing architecturally exquisite churches and 400-year-old restored homes, you’ll get a feel for how San Miguel manages to be both a contemporary Mexican city and a colonial gem. Afterward, visit a local market whose stalls are piled high with tropical fruits, colorful flowers, fresh vegetables, herbs and chiles and have free time for lunch. Continue your journey today by transferring to Guanajuato, a colonial city and university town with a maze of narrow streets and winding alleys. En route, stop to visit the town of Dolores Hidalgo. A small but pretty town, it has acquired pilgrimage status for Mexicans as it was the place where the Mexican independence movement began at the Parish of Our Lady of Sorrows. Its namesake, Miguel Hidalgo, is now one of Mexico’s most revered heroes. Take a stroll with your Tour Manager through the town’s main sights to visit Plaza Principal, the many-colored Talavera ceramics workshops, or perhaps treat yourself to an ice cream! Arrive in Guanajuato and check into your hotel. Visit the city with your Tour Managers including the Mission Gardens, then have dinner together at a local restaurant. (B,D)
