Chapel of São Miguel

The São Miguel Chapel, also known as Saint Michael’s Chapel or “Capela da Universidade de Coimbra,” is a prized architectural gem within the university. Founded in 1290, its Manueline and Portuguese late Gothic style boasts intricate detailing, including a remarkable side door. Inside, visitors are captivated by lavish adornments such as elaborate azulejo wall tiles, a Mannerism-influenced altar, and a majestic Baroque organ donated by King John V of Portugal.
