Skálholt Cathedral

Skálholt Cathedral (Skálholtsdómkirkja) is a historic and striking church in South Iceland, built between 1956 and 1963 on the site of nine earlier churches to honor its role as a center of Icelandic religious and cultural life since 1056. The cathedral features 25 abstract stained-glass windows by Gerður Helgadóttir and an altarpiece by Nína Tryggvadóttir, depicting Christ against an Icelandic landscape. Surrounded by tranquil countryside, its rich history and timeless beauty provide an inspiring setting for choral performances.
